Clark Fork in Outside

July 31, 2010

Site of the former Milltown Reservoir, after the removal of Milltown Dam. Note the Clark Fork River in its temporary channel at upper left. Sediments from the reservoir floor were excavated, shipped upstream by rail, and buried at the BP/ARCO Waste Management Area, aka Opportunity Ponds.

The new issue of Outside magazine has a good piece titled “Cash Flow” by writer Abe Streep about the ongoing cleanup of the Clark Fork River, with a particular focus on the Milltown Dam removal near Missoula and Montana’s burgeoning Superfund-driven restoration economy. READ IT HERE (the story starts on page 3 of the linked section).
